GOLD KEY ENDEAVOURS
BUILDING DREAMS FROM THE BEGINNING
Vicky Jeter, RSc.P.
Vicky's Prenatal and Birth Orientation
I was born two months pre-term October 15, 1962, in Las Vegas, Nevada as the seventh of eight pregnancies for my mother, Laurel. I was the last of only four surviving babies. My mother drank and smoked since age 13. Concerns about prematurity prompted the intentional delay of labor, which lasted three days, and there were significant cord complications, with the cord around my neck at birth.
Weighing 2 lbs. 12oz., I was in NICU for 30 days and diagnosed with Spastic Cerebral Palsy on my first birthday. There were five orthopedic surgeries beginning at age two until the last one at age 10. I crawled until I was four, when I got braces for both legs and started learning how to use crutches to walk.
The braces came off after the last operation at 10. I maintained the use of both crutches until age 18. Then with the determined help of her closest friend, and many other supporters, she put down both crutches completely, and walked independent of assistance until age 34.
Today I walk with a cane to support my right side. I have been in training for the treatment of pre- and perinatal trauma with Dr. William Emerson, Ph.D. for six years.
